Monetary donations can be made through the AFHny website (specify “Habitat Project” in the description).

Project History

AFHny / Habitat build day - August 22, 2009

This project began in May 2009 with a short design charrette. Entrants were asked to offer designs for all elements listed in the project proposal. Entries were reviewed by AFHny and Habitat NYC staff and family partners, and judged on:

  • Use of sustainable methods and materials
  • Simplicity of construction method for volunteer labor
  • Creative application of low-cost, found, or reused materials
  • Repeatability. The design could be effectively adapted to use in another space
  • Incorporation of additional community needs (composting, bike racks, bbq, etc.)
  • Clarity of presentation
