Frequently Asked Questions

I want to volunteer! How can I get involved?

Please attend one of our monthly meetings. These meetings are typically geared towards prospective volunteers, and you'll be able to learn more about AFHny, our current projects, and any volunteer opportunities.

I am not an architect – can I still volunteer?
I am a student – can I still volunteer?
I am not licensed – can I still volunteer?

Absolutely! Our projects are related to architecture and the built environment, but our volunteers come from all fields.

I attended a meeting, and am interested in a project. How do I volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering with a specific project, please contact the team coordinators for that project to find out how you might help (Click here for a list of current projects and coordinators). Alternately, use the Contact Us form and we'll put you in touch with the right people.

I have an idea for a project. What's the next step?

Contact Us to receive our project proposal form, which includes more information about the proposal procedure.

Also, you can post to our New Projects Google Group to discuss your idea prior to a formal submittal.

How do I become a member?

AFHny does not currently have “members”, just “prospective volunteers”, “active volunteers”, and directors. We are currently working towards full, independent 501c3 (non-profit) status, after which we will implement a membership program.

How do I join your email list?

Please sign up for an account on our website – you'll receive email notice of all AFHny news, events, and volunteer opportunities.

Do you have any short-term volunteer opportunities?
I have limited availability, but I need to satisfy the IPD community service requirements.

Most of our projects have a time frame of months, not hours, but we do occasionally have short-term projects. Please sign up for an account on our website, and you'll receive notice of any such opportunities.
