AFHny Studio

AFHny Studio is a new initiative to define and tackle local and global issues, and will serve as a model for future collaboration with other design organizations. Participants will approach problems individually and as teams, with collaborative discussion and critique.

The Studio was developed for freelance designers and those between jobs who are interested in pursuing an independent project or grant within a social context. AFHny and the AIANY are collaborating to compile the resources (meeting space, grant writing help, expert critique) to encourage designers to use their individual strengths and collective successes to bring more powerful design activism to NYC.

Studio meetings are held at the Center for Architecture every Friday (times vary).

Urban Art pARTners
The Studio entry for the Urban Art pARTners initiative has been selected by NYC DOT for a $5,000 grant!

The proposed “ARTfarm” derives inspiration from the Bronx Museum and the local farmers market. The project site is a step street on East 165th Street between Grand Concourse and Sheridan Avenue in the Bronx. We propose using found and donated objects to build planters and seating elements to create a community space.
