May 9, 2009: 10:30am-4:00pm
Riverside Park’s Pier I on the Hudson River, NYC
The FlyNY Kite Competition is open to the international design community- including architects, artists, engineers, urban designers, product and industrial designers- and the greater NYC community- families, students, citizens. Participants will present original designs at the first official kite flying event in the New York City parks. Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged to foster an innovative conversation about the principles of design. Volunteers will include children in this dialogue through kite-making activities. A panel of judges will select distinguished designs for a public exhibition and auction on May 28th 2009 at the Knoll showroom, NYC. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the New York Affiliate of Architecture for Humanity, a non-for-profit organization that provides architectural services to underserved communities in New York.
Participation is free! Register online at http://www.flyny.org/form.php. Registration is quick and free; a suggested donation is requested from professional individuals and teams.
This event is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency and Van Alen Institute: Projects in Public Architecture. FlyNY was founded in 2008 by NY architects Aurelie Paradiso, Hannah Purdy, and Victoria Walsh.
